How to Create a Subscription Product
Learn how to create subscription products that automatically bill customers on a recurring schedule (weekly, monthly, or yearly). Subscriptions provide predictable revenue and allow customers to access services automatically.
How to Create a Subscription Product
Before You Begin
- Login to your account at https://app.joinzipper.com/auth/login
- Ensure you have owner or admin permissions
- Ensure Stripe is connected (required for paid subscriptions)
Steps
Step 1: Open the Create Product form
- Go to Products & Services > Manage Plans
- Click Create product (plus icon, top left)
Step 2: Select Subscription product type
- In the Product type section, select Subscription
Product type cannot be changed after creation — choose carefully.
Step 3: Fill out product details
- Name (required, max 100 characters) — what customers will see
- Headline (optional, max 200 characters) — one-sentence synopsis
- Details (optional, max 1000 characters) — describe what’s included
- Product Image (optional) — helps customers identify the product
Step 4: Configure pricing
- Price (required) — amount charged per billing cycle
- Billing schedule — choose Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly
- Startup fee (optional) — one-time charge when customers first subscribe, separate from the recurring price
Step 5: Configure integrations and visibility (optional)
- Stripe product ID — Zipper creates this automatically; update here if needed
- Show in customer app and website — toggle on to allow purchase via the customer app and website
- Prevent booking outside subscription window — when enabled, customers can only book during their active billing period
Step 6: Configure additional settings (optional)
- Forms — require customers to complete forms during purchase (must include first name, last name, and email fields)
- Shop visibility / Category — control where the subscription appears and how it’s organized
- Availability — set to Requires consultation (hides from public, generates a special sign-up URL) or Requires approval (customers must request access)
Step 7: Save
- Click Save at the bottom of the form
Troubleshooting
Don’t see “Create product”? Only owners and admins can create products — contact your organization owner.
Can’t create a paid subscription? Stripe must be connected. Go to Settings > Integrations and complete Stripe merchant onboarding.
Save button disabled? Fill in all required fields: product type, name, price, and billing schedule.
Can’t change product type after creation? Product type is locked at creation. Create a new product with the correct type instead.
