How to Control Where System Email Notifications Go

Zipper has two levels of notification settings: org-wide defaults and individual staff preferences. Here's how to configure both.

Org-Wide Notifications

Controls the default channels (email, push, SMS) for all system notifications across your organization.

Step 1: Open Organization Notifications

  • Navigate to: Settings > Organization Notifications
  • Or go directly to: /dashboard/organization-management/notification-preferences

Step 2: Toggle notifications on or off

  • Quick Controls at the top let you bulk-enable or disable all email, push, or SMS
  • Scroll down to find individual notification types (e.g., “Appointment Booked”, “Payment Received”, “New Customer”)
  • For each notification, toggle the Email, Push, and/or SMS column on or off
  • Changes save automatically

What the settings control

  • Email — system emails sent to staff when the event occurs
  • Push — mobile app and browser push notifications
  • SMS — text message alerts (requires Twilio connected)

Per-Staff Notifications

Each staff member can configure their own notification preferences, which override the org defaults for their account.

Step 1: Open My Notifications

  • Navigate to: Settings > My Notifications
  • Or: /dashboard/settings/notification-preferences

Step 2: Adjust personal preferences

  • Toggle individual notifications on or off per channel
  • Changes override the org defaults for this staff member only
  • Changes save automatically

Tips

  • Org vs. personal: Org settings are the defaults. Staff personal settings override the org defaults for their own account only.
  • SMS not working: Twilio must be connected before SMS notifications can fire. Go to Settings > Integrations > Twilio.
  • Routing to a different email address: These settings control on/off and channel — not routing to a specific email. Custom routing requires automation actions.
  • Who gets notified for classes/appointments: That’s configured separately in Schedule > Calendar Settings (class or appointment type level), not here.

Troubleshooting

A notification is still sending even after I turned it off. Check both org-level AND the staff member’s personal preferences — both layers must match. Also confirm you saved (changes auto-save, but wait a moment before testing).

Staff member says they’re not getting notifications they expect. Check their personal notification preferences first — they may have turned something off. If personal settings look correct, check the org-level settings.
