Give your community the right price without another discount code

Use customer tags to apply a standing percentage discount for the groups your studio chooses to support.

A student discount should not depend on whether the person at the desk remembers a code. Nor should a client have to explain the same eligibility every time they visit.

Tag-based Discount Rules let your studio record that eligibility on a customer and apply the standing percentage reduction through the supported pricing workflows.

You choose the groups your studio supports. Student, senior, military, and community are examples, rather than fixed categories everyone must use.

Connect the price to the customer

A rule connects a customer tag with a percentage discount. When the customer has the relevant tag and the rule is active, Zipper can consider that discount when calculating an eligible price.

That keeps the reason for the price close to the client’s profile. Staff can see the tag context, and the next person handling the account does not have to reconstruct a private arrangement from memory.

Administrators with the appropriate product-management access manage Discount Rules. Eligibility belongs to the customer making the eligible purchase or booking, rather than the staff member handling the checkout.

Give drop-in clients the benefit too

The October extension brings applicable tag discounts to ordinary class and event drop-in purchases. A client does not need a subscription solely to receive the standing percentage reduction.

For an illustrative studio, a tagged student buying an eligible single visit can see the discounted choice without being put onto a special zero-dollar membership first.

That makes the feature useful beyond the membership list, while leaving the class’s normal booking restrictions and payment requirements in place.

The best applicable price wins

Discounts do not pile on top of one another. Zipper compares the applicable options and chooses the best eligible price rather than compounding a tag discount with another reduction.

This matters when a member also belongs to a supported community group or enters a promotional code. The result should reflect the eligible price, not an accidental combination of discounts.

The price is checked again as the transaction completes. If a relevant rule or tag changes during checkout, the customer needs a current quote rather than an unexplained higher charge.

Keep eligibility up to date

An eligibility tag needs the same care as the policy it represents. Removing a tag or deactivating a rule changes future pricing; it does not rewrite the amounts on completed purchases.

Tags do not automatically expire simply because someone stopped qualifying in the real world. Give your team a practical way to review and remove them when needed. A relevant lifecycle automation can support that process where configured.

CRM tools help keep that customer context organized, and the automation improvements provide more ways to respond to tag changes.

A standing discount is most useful when it is consistent and understandable. Record who qualifies, configure the rule deliberately, and let the supported checkout apply it.
