Setting up a new business on Zipper
Let’s get you taking payments and bookings!
0 of 24 tasks done
Set up your account #
Let’s start by getting the basics in place
Set up your Stripe account
Zipper uses Stripe Connect to process payments and route them to your bank account. Once you connect a Stripe account, you can take payments directly through Zipper.
- Log in to your Zipper account from a desktop or laptop computer. Navigate to Settings > Integrations > Connect Stripe Account
- Follow the prompts to create your Stripe Connect account. You’ll add your business details, bank account and identity verification. Stripe will walk you through all requirements and once complete you’ll be redirected back to your Zipper account and the integration will be live, allowing you to accept payments from customers through Zipper.
Verify your sending email
In Zipper, navigate to Settings > Integrations > Custom Sending Email and set which email address emails to your customers should come from. Check your inbox for a verification email sent from Amazon SES to verify your email.
Add your basic business details to Zipper
In Zipper, navigate to Settings > Organization Settings and add company details, location and timezone, branding, social media links and more.
Fill out our website intake form
If you will be using a Zipper website (either Site Builder or Zipper Pro Site), please fill out this intake form so we can get a draft created for you.
Build your studio #
Now that you can take payments, it’s time to set Zipper up with what you sell.
Add your staff
- Navigate to Staff > Staff Members to add each staff member individually and select their role in your business
- You can ignore Pay Rate for now if you’d like (we’ll come back to that below)
- Leave the “send invite email” toggle OFF for now if you’re not ready to invite your team into your Zipper account (you can invite them later)
Add your classes
Classes are recurring events on your schedule with fixed days and times.
- Navigate to Schedule > Classes and select the + Create Class button to add your first class
- We recommend creating your first class manually so you learn all options. You can use the “Create with AI” option for subsequent classes.
- Add in your Class details on the first screen
- Add each timeslot this class occurs on the second screen. You’ll set the instructor, location, capacity and days and times of the week here.
- The 3rd step is where you’ll set who has access to book this class. You can add a drop-in rate for now if you’d like, but otherwise you can ignore this for now. We’ll come back to this once we have your pricing built.
- The 4th step is where you’ll attach waivers and set any cancellation / no-show policies. You can ignore the waiver section for now (we’ll do that in a later step) but you’ll want to set your cancellation/no-show policies.
- Select “Create Class” and repeat for additional class types
Add your appointments
Appointments are not recurring events on your schedule, they are more flexible timeslots paired with staff availability that can be scheduled in open spaces by either the customer (if you choose) or internally.
- Navigate to Schedule > Appointments and select the + Create Appointment Type button to add your first appointment
- You’ll need to create an Availability Calendar to attach to the appointment type. These are the default hours of availability you want to allow customers to book this specific appointment type.
- All other appointment settings are on this single screen. Once all fields are considered, select Save and repeat for all other appointment types.
Add your pricing
- Navigate to Products & Services > Manage Plans and select the + Create Product button to add your first pricing option
- Step through the options for setting up your pricing option.
- Use manual sales tax if you know your sales tax rate or need to set it to 0%
- Booking Credits are if they get a limited number of class bookings (i.e. a 5-pack). (if all-access, we’ll configure that on the class itself)
- Cash Balance enables a wallet balance and member discount options
Add your pay rates
If you have staff, you can set up pay rates to help with your payroll reporting
- Navigate to Staff > Pay Rates and select the + Add new pay rate button to add your first pay rate
- Set which classes or appointment types this pay rate should apply for and choose the structure you want to use
- Once you have your pay rates created, navigate to Staff > Staff Members and assign appropriate pay rates (you can assign multiple) to each staff member as applicable.
Add waivers, forms + required fields
Forms are often used for waivers, membership terms + conditions, or general contact forms. Once created, forms can be attached to any product, class, appointment or event, or embedded on your website.
- Navigate to Products & Services > Forms and select the + Create form button to add your first form.
- Form Fields: add basic information and other fields that you’d like to appear on this form. You can select if each field is required or not
- For waivers that require a signature, select the “Signature” field type
- Once your forms are completed, you can bulk attach them to classes, appointments and events by selecting the “Edit Booking Waivers” button on the main Products & Services > Forms page.
Learn the day-to-day #
Now that your studio system is set up, let’s see how the system works for you and your customers!
Create a test customer profile + learn member management basics
- Navigate to Contacts > Customers and select the + Create Customer button to create a test customer profile (use a different email from your staff account email for better testing)
- Explore the customer profile to get familiar with all you can see and do
Take a payment + learn how the POS system works
You can charge customers from multiple places in the platform. Watch the video below to learn more.
- Navigate to your test customer account and select the Charge button to see how to charge a specific customer

- Navigate to Schedule > Calendar to charge customers for a specific class, appointment or event
Register a customer for a class or appointment + learn how the studio calendar works
Terminology note: in Zipper, Classes and Events are both referred to as Events on the calendar. Appointments are separate and can be toggled on and off independently in the filters.
- Navigate to Schedule > Calendar and find the view you prefer (defaults to Week(grid))
- To cancel or otherwise edit the event or appointment, click the 3 dots.
- To add a new class, event or appointment, or to block time on a staff member’s availability, click on the day/time spot on the calendar.
- To sign a customer up for a class: click add registration, search for the customer and choose how they should pay for that class. May also choose to book them into the recurring timeslot.
- You may drag and drop appointments on the calendar to reschedule
