Learn how to configure who can see and edit custom fields for customers. Visibility settings help you control access to sensitive information and customize field access for different users.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure you have owner or admin permissions

Steps

Step 1: Open the custom field

  1. Go to Contacts > Custom Customer Fields
  2. Click the field you want to configure (or click Edit next to it)

Step 2: Configure visibility and edit permissions

In the field edit form, find the Visibility settings section and set:

  • Who can see the field — team only, or visible to customers
  • Who can edit the field — team only, customer can edit, or read-only
  • Customer visibility — whether the field appears in the customer’s own account

Step 3: Save

Click Save. Settings take effect immediately.

Troubleshooting

No Custom Fields option? Confirm you have permission to manage custom fields and the feature is enabled for your organization.

Can’t configure visibility? Make sure you are editing the field (not just viewing it) and have manage-custom-fields permission.

Customers can’t see a field they should see? Enable “Visible to customer” on that field and confirm it is not set to hidden.
