Cookie Policy
Which cookies Zipper uses, why we use them, and how to manage your preferences across our site and platform.
This Zipper site and platform may use cookies.
How We Use Cookies
We use cookies for a variety of reasons detailed below. Unfortunately in most cases there are no industry standard options for disabling cookies without completely disabling the functionality and features they add to this site. It is recommended that you leave on all cookies if you are not sure whether you need them or not in case they are used to provide a service that you use.
Disabling Cookies
You can prevent the setting of cookies by adjusting the settings on your browser (see your browser Help for how to do this). Be aware that disabling cookies will affect the functionality of this and many other websites that you visit. Disabling cookies will usually result in also disabling certain functionality and features of this site. Therefore, it is recommended that you do not disable cookies.
The Zipper Cookie Consent tool can be utilized to customize your cookie preferences. The tool will record when you have consented to our cookie policy and will ask for consent periodically to ensure users stay up-to-date with changes to our cookie and privacy policies. The consent tool specifically controls the marketing cookies and analytical cookies set by using the Zipper website. Essential cookies cannot be disabled.
Where a user is identified or reasonably believed to be under the age of 13 during the account creation or age-verification flow, non-essential cookies — including marketing and analytics cookies — will not be activated until age eligibility has been confirmed and, where required, verifiable parental consent has been obtained. This is consistent with our obligations under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable state children's privacy laws.
The Cookies We Set
Account related cookies. If you create an account with us, then we will use cookies for the management of the signup process and general administration. These cookies will usually be deleted when you log out; however, in some cases they may remain afterwards to remember your site preferences when logged out.
Login related cookies. We use cookies when you are logged in so that we can remember that you are logged in. This prevents you from having to log in every single time you visit a new page. These cookies are typically removed or cleared when you log out to ensure that you can only access restricted features and areas when logged in.
Email newsletters related cookies. This site offers newsletter or email subscription services and cookies may be used to remember if you are already registered and whether to show certain notifications which might only be valid to subscribed/unsubscribed users.
Forms related cookies. When you submit data to us through a form such as those found on contact pages or comment forms, cookies may be set to remember your user details for future correspondence.
Third Party Cookies
We use only a few third party cookies. We use Stripe, HubSpot, Google Analytics to track our marketing efforts.
Cookies, Age Verification, and Birthdate Data
When a user registers for an account or accesses age-gated features of the Zipper platform, we may use session cookies to facilitate the age-verification or date-of-birth collection process. These cookies are essential to the account setup flow and are set only for the duration of that session unless account registration is completed. Any date of birth or age signal collected through this process is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and is not passed to third-party advertising or analytics platforms.
The following practices apply specifically to age and birthdate data collected via cookies or similar technologies:
Adult users. Where a user's date of birth confirms they are 18 or older, standard marketing and analytics cookies will activate upon consent via the Zipper Cookie Consent tool. Date of birth itself is stored securely in our systems and is not embedded in or transmitted through cookies to third parties.
Minors ages 13–17. Where a user's date of birth indicates they are between 13 and 17, marketing cookies are blocked and only essential and account-related cookies will be set. Analytics cookies that collect behavioral data will not be activated for minor users. This restriction persists for the life of the account unless and until the user turns 18 and updates their account profile.
Children under 13. Where age-verification indicates a user is under 13, no non-essential cookies will be set and account creation will be paused pending verifiable parental consent in accordance with COPPA. If consent is not obtained, the session will be terminated and any age related data collected during the session will be deleted.
Third-party cookie vendors and age data. Our third-party cookie providers — currently Stripe, HubSpot, and Google Analytics — are not provided with a user's date of birth or age classification. Where HubSpot or Google Analytics cookies would otherwise be activated, they are withheld for users identified as minors under 13 and limited to essential functionality only for users ages 13–17. We do not permit third-party advertising networks to set cookies on users who are minors. If you have concerns about how third-party cookies interact with your or your child's data, please contact us at privacy@joinzipper.com.
