Link your custom domain to your Zipper Site with Wix
How it Works
We'll provide you with a few mappings to enter on your web host's site or portal. Please follow the steps below to set up your Zipper Site if your domain is hosted on Wix.
- Upgrade your account - Free Zipper accounts can build sites, but only upgraded plans can launch them on custom domains
- Navigate to the ‘Domains’ tab - In the Zipper site builder, navigate to “Site Settings” > “Domains” to get started
- Add your custom domain - If you have not added your domain to Zipper, you can do so here by clicking “+Add” and entering the URL.
Please note it might take several minutes for Zipper to confirm the DNS settings, but once confirmed, you’ll see a message stating that “DNS settings are verified” with an option to view them, shown below.
When you click “View DNS settings” you’ll see a menu similar to the one below with three columns. One for “Type”, one for “Name/Host” and one for “Value” … the Name/Host and Value columns are unique to your domain and will help you establish the link between your domain host & your website.
1. Go to Domains in your Wix account.
2. Click the More Actions icon next to the relevant domain.
3. Manage DNS Records.
4. Once selected, Edit your CNAME & A records as needed. These correspond to what you see above in Zipper’s DNS Settings modal / popup.
First try to “Update” the CNAME and A records as there might be existing ones that need replacing or prior removal. You’ll want to establish the mappings as shown in Zipper’s DNS Settings. So, for example, using the second line in the Zipper DNS window you will map CNAME Name “www” to CNAME Value “www.site.joinzipper.com” … if there’s not an existing row to “Update”, then “Adding” a CNAME or A record will give you the opportunity to establish these mappings in Wix.
In total, you will need to add 4 mappings. To cover all your bases, please add both a “*” A record and a “@” A record (mirroring the setup of the * record).
Once you’ve added these mappings, the linkage between your website on Zipper and your domain will be established. It might take several hours (up to 48, usually less) for the mapping to finalize. The first few loads of your site online will likely be a bit slow, but it’ll speed up shortly after! Congratulations on launching your site!
